
With the international shipping peak season approaching on September 1st, major shipping lines have announced freight rate increases. Maersk announced a peak season surcharge of $700 per TEU on routes from China and other Asia-Pacific regions to the Middle East, and an additional surcharge of $800-$1,600 on routes to French Polynesia, effective September 10th. Hapag-Lloyd will increase fares on routes from the Far East to the East Coast of South America by $500 per TEU, and a peak season surcharge of $400 per TEU on routes from Asia to West Africa, effective September 1st. CMA CGM also announced price increases of $150-$200 per TEU on routes from the Far East to East Africa, and $250 per TEU on routes to West, Central, and Southern Africa, effective September 1st. These price increases range from $150 to $1,600 and cover popular routes from major Asia-Pacific ports to the Middle East, Africa, and South America.
